Classic Cars Young Collectors Can't Get Enough Of
The younger generation has its fair share of collectors and, apparently, they're not just looking for muscle cars, corvettes or roadsters; it's all about the 90s cars and old pickups! Younger collectors seem to be scouring the market for more trucks, surprisingly. It could be due to the fact some of them grew up when the SUV made its mark in the automotive industry. Regardless, millennials and Gen Xers alike are pushing against the stereotypes and opting for vehicles that are little less predictable.
1973-1979 Ford F-Series
Classic pickup trucks are getting a revival, and it seems like the Ford F-Series sixth generation is a popular choice. Apart from Ford getting heat over the years, the F-150 model is iconic. Another reason why it's a top pick could be due to the trucks rugged styling and comfortable cab, perfect as a work vehicle as well. There aren't many left around, which could be another reason why it's highly collectible. Considered to be the 'golden era' of trucks, these models are known to be reliable workhorses and are in league with some of the most excellent trucks ever made.
Up next we have a vehicle that was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang.
1993-2002 Pontiac Firebird
The Pontiac Firebird was fresh, fast, and affordable in its prime. While it did receive some negative reviews for being of poor quality and having a crappy interior, it hasn't stopped younger buyers from seeking out the Pontiac-built classic. The automotive brand took it to the next level with these fourth-generation Firebirds, amping up the aerodynamics from previous generations and using new parts for ninety-percent of the vehicle. The Firebird's style was reminiscent of the 1991 concept car Banshee IV. Other improvements for this specific generation were dual airbags, anti-lock brakes, 16-inch wheels, and more.
Some say the next vehicle is the closest thing to a four-door Corvette.
1994-1996 Chevrolet Impala SS
This Chevy is the epitome of revival for the 90s. While it didn't get enough attention in its time, the SS was a genuine muscle car selling nearly 70,000 units within three years. Many have remained collector's items to this day, and the younger generation has picked up on the appeal of the performance and spaciousness of the Impala. The last year of production was in 1996, and a special ceremony was held at the plant for the collector who bought the last Impala SS. Impalas have also been used in some West Coast rap videos and is a standard vehicle in the West Coast lifestyle.
Up next we have a large sports utility vehicle from Dodge.
1974-1994 Dodge Ramcharger
This full-size 2-door SUV was popular for offroading and was designed to compete with the likes of the Chevy Blazer/GMC Jimmy and the Ford Bronco. Two-door SUVs and the older body style were losing their appeal by the 90s, so production was halted. While mainstream car enthusiasts fell off the bandwagon, there is still a market for young collectors who are perusing auto ads looking for the Ramcharger. The 80's look of the vehicle is a strong selling point, as well the fact the top of the SUV can be opened.
In the next slide, we have a vehicle that had humble beginnings.
1993-1998 Toyota Supra
Prices for these 90's cars have gone through the roof thanks to movies like The Fast And The Furious, sometimes close to $100,000. The 4th generation Supra in 1993 gave the car the respect it finally deserved. Unlike Supra generations before the 1993 model had been completely restyled from the ground up. The word legendary became synonymous with Supra. Unfortunately, production halted in 1998 making these vehicles highly coveted after. The in-demand classic was powerful enough back in the day to put cars like the Corvette and the 911 to shame.
In the final slide, we have a vehicle that gets a lot of heat in today's time.
1994-2004 Mustang
This generation of the Mustang gave a whole new meaning to the brand that got heat for producing a 'cheap, fairly modern' vehicle. The vehicle revitalized the entire history of the company and the Mustang quickly became a big contender for most favorite car of the 90s. The car is also said to the one to transition successfully from a regular muscle car to something that was sought after by many different buyers. The Cobra models of that time had engines that produced 400 horsepower and are some of the most coveted vehicles even in today's time.
While Millennials and Gen Xers have quite the market to sift through for classic cars, this is just a short list of what's available to tickle their fancy.
